Day 28

Western Seminary is a Christian graduate school made up of students who are diverse in vocational aims, age, and ethnicity and united in their great love for Jesus. Founded in 1927 in Portland, Oregon, our graduates serve as missionaries, pastors, educators, church planters, counselors, coaches, and mental health professionals around the world.

Western Seminary's vision is to be an educational community that promotes gospel-centered transformation in every aspect of its life and work. Its mission is to serve as a catalyst and resource for spiritual transformation by working with and for the church to equip men and women for strategic ministry roles. As a disciple-making partner, Western Seminary works alongside the church to prepare its leaders to equip God's people to fulfill the areas of service for which each member of Christ's body is gifted.

Our degree programs include the Master of Divinity (MDiv), Master of Arts in Counseling (MAC), Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies (MABTS), Master of Arts in Ministry and Leadership (MAML), and Master of Applied Biblical Leadership (MABL). Post-graduate degrees include the Doctor of Philosophy in Intercultural Education (PhD), Doctor of Education in Intercultural Education (EdD), Doctor of Intercultural Studies (DIS), Doctor of Ministry (DMin), and Master of Theology (ThM). We also offer graduate certificates.

Praying for our Seminary

  • Pray for ongoing faithfulness to our mission to serve as a catalyst and resource for spiritual transformation by working with and for the church to equip men and women for strategic ministry roles.
  • Pray for God's guidance as the seminary seeks to collaborate with VCN nationally and CVNW regionally as a resource to local churches and mission agencies.
  • Pray for our many graduates serving in key VCN/CVNW ministry roles.
  • Pray for our work of revitalizing the facilities of our historic Portland campus.
  • Pray for our gospel-centered ministries that seek to serve the church in unique ways:
    • Center for Pastoral Flourishing, which serves pastors throughout the Pacific Northwest and Northern California at key stages in their vocational service.
    • Transform (formerly known as the Center for Leadership Development), which provides a broad range of biblical, theological, and ministerial educational resources to those seeking to be better equipped for service and/or ministry leadership.
    • The ReGeneration Project, which exists to encourage church leaders and new generations, equipping them with ways to respond to the difficult questions being asked today about theology, the Bible, the Church, and Christianity in general.
  • Pray for the growth of our Transformation Fund, which is a newly created fund to provide tuition subsidies to our students.
